Ceramic Studio: Uku Trunk Vases

Tues 27 Jan - Thur 2 Apr
In this clay sculpting workshop students will learn the fundamentals of hand shaping clay, combining pinch pot and coiling techniques to build a tree trunk vase structure.
Texture and patterns of our native trees will inspire designs and imaginations can run wild as students decorate their pieces with epiphytes and insects, manu and vines, and all other things that kids can imagine living up in the branches.
Works will be glazed and fired before being returned to the artists.

In this pottery fundamentals workshop, we will take a scientific journey into the formation of clay within the earth - finding inspiration in the layers and patterns found in the rocks and water that combine to form clay. We will create a vessel with a lid that can double as a wall hanging or a taonga.
