With Catherine Guevara

 Wearable Clay

Designed to encourage cultural connection, this ceramic workshop for youth will explore the significance of body ornaments in both Latin American and Indigenous cultures, examining the use of jewellery, masks, and symbolic art worn on the body to express identity, status, and culture.

Through discussion and attention to the design process students will  develop ideas to represent their own cultures or identities, and using patterns found in nature as starting blocks they will then create their own unique body adornments in porcelain clay.

Within the process of making, students will be guided through fundamental ceramic techniques both structural and decorative. All finished work will be glazed and fired to collect at a later date.

Catherine Guevara an experienced tutor, also has her own dedicated ceramics practice, through which she examines the process of ceramic-making, imbuing layers of clay with memory and history.
