Uku Whistle

Available through Term 3-4

 Uku Whistle

This ceramic workshop offers a unique opportunity for students to learn about clay-building techniques, sound waves, and artistic expression.

Through the use of the pinch pot structure and joining techniques students will learn to build the body of their whistle using clay, and then construct the necessary sound-making mechanisms to produce a whistle sound.

Along the way, they will gain an understanding of how sound waves travel, combining art and science in a hands-on learning experience. Students will then individualise their whistles with sculptural and decorative effects using learned adhering techniques, etching and sculpting to create their very own Uku Whistle.

Allow three weeks for firing and glazing.
