Pakiwaitara - Pakuranga Rahihi: Traditional stories of Tāmaki Makaurau

This workshop commences with a shadow puppet presentation, and  pūrākau (story) voiced by master storyteller Pita Turei, narrating a time of magic and a story of supernatural powers and action.

Embedded in the local landscape, stretching from the Waitākere Ranges to the Hunua Ranges and out east to the Tāmaki estuary, this pūrākau helps to explain the geography, the natural phenomena, and the ancient connections between places.

As a response, students will each create a multilayered mixed-media artwork. Each process is interwoven into the story to help embed the memory and inspire imagination.
