Workshop
This workshop is a fun introduction to the tradition of sketching the landscape en plain air.
Drawing inspiration from some of NZ best known landscape painters such as Toss Woollaston and Rita Angus, students will discover how traditionally landscape paintings begin as watercolour sketches painted outside while looking at the source.
Inside our artroom students will collaborate to build a 3D model landscape stretching down the middle of our worktables from small pieces of our local whenua. These landscapes will provide the source for their painted sketches.
Each student will then develop a series of watercolour impressions using watercolour inks and watercolour pastels, an ideal way to give students an understanding of colour mixing and use.
This workshop gives a solid grounding in the basics of landscape painting with a focus on tonal study, colour perspectives and shaping form while also providing some history and knowledge of NZ art.
