 A Dance of Patterns

Design a beautiful unique printed kite that really flies. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of textile patterns from around the world these kites will display a layering of patterns. Each student will design their own printing stamp which will be used in repetition to build up a pattern repeat, decorating the face of their kite with a unique complex printed pattern. Coloured ink painting will overlay the stamped-on patterns adding to the complexity and creating a dance between the two patterns.

Students will develop a variety of practical skills and problem-solving techniques examining the mathematical nature of patterns, the science of kitemaking, and art design skills in the planning and decorating of their kites.
