 Kāinga

This exhibition explores connections between Briana Duffy’s whakapapa to the Cook Islands and Aotearoa drawing upon personal ancestry and historical ties as she makes visual connections between both. Using her haerenga tapu as a path of understanding her cultural connections, Duffy engages in Western and traditional crafting methods from the Pacific to foster a sense of belonging to these not-so-distant homelands.

The use of art as a tool for reflection and self-critique allows for healing and restorative capabilities which is evident in this exhibition Kāinga in its ability to affirm a place of belonging, self and  enhances the artist's mental welfare.
