The Handweavers & Spinners Guild Auckland celebrates 70 years of creative practice in weaving, spinning, felting, tapestry weaving, knitting, crochet and dyeing. This exhibition highlights the great things achievable when working with hand tools to create textiles and celebrates Guild members’ creativity and technical skills.
Since its inception in 1954, the Handweavers and Spinners Guild has fostered and encouraged excellence in the practice of fibre crafting skills and promoted the exchange of ideas, knowledge and expertise.
This exhibition continues a long tradition of sharing Guild members’ work with the public and the aesthetic, colour palette, design style and quality of making and finishing embodied in these pieces show what has inspired their makers and how textiles have evolved over time.
As our planet struggles with huge environmental challenges, the Guild continues to champion the use of sustainable, natural fibres and processes and skills that have long traditions.
These works reflect our love of crafting with fibre and, above all, our joy of creativity.

Saturday 12 April, 11am - 12.30pm
Homestead Galleries
Free, all welcome
Join the Handweavers & Spinners Guild for an engaging demonstration of spinning, weaving and more at the Homestead Galleries. Rather than a hands-on workshop, this is an opportunity to observe skilled artisans at work, learn about the materials and methods used, and hear the stories behind the craft. Throughout the event, members of the guild will showcase their techniques, answer questions, and discuss the history of the practices in reference to the exhibition.
