 Pekapeka-tou-roa Life, Flight & Plight

Through collective remembering and reimagining of artistic and scientific practices, ‘Pekapeka-tou-roa – Flight & Plight’ contends that this mysterious species is of profound cultural and scientific significance and may be returned from the brink of extinction with collective community action.

This group exhibition weaves together artistic responses, oral histories, scientific information and interactive learning opportunities to deepen personal and public understanding of the cultural and environmental significance of pekapeka; aiding development and facilitation of practical research on the species present in the district.  A portion of sales generated through the exhibition will be donated towards the purchase of bat detectors and the implementation of a citizen science initiative for this purpose.
