 Hiwa-i-te-Rangi: The Wishing Star

Join us for the interactive pop-up installation Hiwa-i-te-Rangi: The Wishing Star by Penny Howard, to celebrate Matariki and Te Tau Hou Māori (the Māori New Year), taking place in the Corban Heritage Room, just off Gallery 3 inside the Homestead Galleries.

During this time, we invite you to participate by writing your wishes, hopes and karakia  for Matariki on the back of a paper wishbone and tie it to Penny's large whai (string game).

Following this, all the wishbones, dreams and aspirations will be ceremoniously burned and sent up to the star Hiwa-i-te-Rangi to be granted. Everyone is welcome to join us at this Dawn Ceremony on Saturday 15 June, and to participate in this meaningful ceremony together. Let's gather to celebrate Matariki in community and share our hopes and wishes with the universe.
