Open Arts Day 2018 - Welcome to our Neighbourhood
Sat 27 October 10am - 4pm
Corban Estate Arts Centre’s annual Open Arts Day provides the perfect opportunity to see behind the scenes at this creative hub in West Auckland.
Melbourne based artist, Robert Young, a Gunnai, Gunditjmarra Yorta Yorta and Waradjurie man, will share his journey of identity and culture. Robert works with canvas, sculptures, murals and traditional aboriginal artefacts. He also works as an Indigenous Programme Coordinator in Melbourne, assisting his students to recognise their culture in the mainstream contemporary art world. Event sponsored by Splice.
"Why I believe it's important for our next generation to be connected to not only their culture but their identity and what culture means...is because there's so many young people out there that actually don't have the opportunity, or know how to make a boomerang, or know how to make certain things that just build up their culture and keep it alive because I think if we lose it for this next generation, then it's gonna be lost forever."
