Workshop
Join multidisciplinary artist Olivia Asher on a whimsical, tactile journey to create a functional ceramic candelabra or wall sconce in this 3-day Summer School workshop.
Using hand-building techniques you will explore architectural and ornamental form through drawing, slab construction, coiling, joining, texture, piercing and relief. You will be encouraged to develop your own material language with clay while also guided to create structurally sound forms.
All pieces will be fired (and glazed if desired) on completion, and you will come away with both a functional and creative piece as well as a sound knowledge of hand building clay techniques.

Olivia Asher (Ngāti Tūwharetoa) is a Tāmaki Makaurau-based multidisciplinary artist and writer. Her practice explores intimacy, domestic space, containment and emotional experience through materially grounded forms. Working intuitively with materials, she approaches making as both tactile process and relational language, considering how objects can hold memory, feeling, and atmosphere. Olivia holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Te Waka Tūhura Elam School of Fine Arts and Design and has recently shown ceramic work at Objectspace Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
