Flower Puppets

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of puppetry? In this one-day kids workshop you can make your own whimsical rod-style puppet inspired by your favourite flower.
Led by artist and experienced tutor Sarah Cowie, you will construct a rod puppet using cardboard and fabric, and decorated with paint. You will also learn simple hand-sewing techniques by using a running stich to create gathered fabric to decorate the puppet.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll have a moveable puppet to take home and practise your puppeteering skills with.

In Henderson Park there lives a colony of Pekapeka-tou-roa—tiny bats flitting through the night, feeding on insects and roosting in the giant ancient trees. In this workshop, students will explore the habitat and behavior of our native long-tailed bats before creating their own zoetrope.
