 Fanua: The Beating Ground

Join resident artist Florence Ulutunu for an immersive 2-day workshop where you will be guided through the complete making process of siapo, the traditional Sāmoan barkcloth.

Throughout the workshop, you will learn the full siapo-making process, exploring the techniques from preparation to finishing. You will also develop an understanding of the deep cultural stories and significance woven into the art of siapo, connecting with the fanua (land/environment) and the traditional tools while learning a treasured cultural practice. Furthermore, participants will have the chance to experiment with their own creativity through the making process.

This is a 2-day workshop, participants will need to attend both sessions.
