Chinese Cloisonné

Step back in time and explore the ancient art of Cloisonné, a captivating craft that has dazzled people for centuries! Inspired by the stunning Chinese Jing Tai Lan, which flourished during the Ming Dynasty in the 1400s, this workshop invites kids to create their own vibrant masterpieces.
Led by talented tutor, Michelle Zhao, young artists will dive into the world of Cloisonné, learning the art of enamel design in a fun, hands-on way. Using upcycled objects as their canvas, kids will carefully place thin wires to form intricate partitions, or 'cloisons,' which they’ll then fill with colourful sands. By the end of the workshop, each child will have crafted a unique and beautifully finished artwork to take home.

In this pottery fundamentals workshop, we will take a scientific journey into the formation of clay within the earth - finding inspiration in the layers and patterns found in the rocks and water that combine to form clay. We will create a vessel with a lid that can double as a wall hanging or a taonga.
