 West Auckland at Play

The West Auckland Historical Society pays homage to the sports and pastimes that helped shape the settlements of West Auckland in the early years.

How the practicality of the pushbike for transport in the early years became a competitive sport at the 1950 Empire Games, with the track cycling event starting and finishing at Western Springs. The progression from local swimming holes at Tui Glen and Redwood Park, to a 1990 Commonwealth Games facility at the new Henderson Pool at West Wave.

Come discover memorabilia and images of West Auckland's favourite sporting codes,
sportspeople and favourite local outings over the years. Hear about and see some of the bikes from the Bicycle Chap's collection and watch video footage of the 1950 Empire Games at the Cellar Room at Corban Estate Arts Centre.
