 About Pekapeka-tou-roa – A Talk

Pekapeka-tou-roa, the native long-tailed bat (Chalinolobus tuberculatus), is a critically endangered species.  The Waitakere Ranges is a known stronghold for these tiny animals, and a colony lives in Henderson Park.

Ben Paris

Ben Paris works at Auckland Zoo as Community Conservation Manager. He graduated from Waikato University with a science degree and worked for the Waikato Regional Council on bringing tūī, back to suburban Hamilton. Hamilton was also where Ben was introduced to New Zealand's native bats, for which he developed a passion. While at Auckland Council he helped kick start a bat awareness movement through research and science communication.

Ben’s talk is being offered so that we can all learn more about and become aware of pekapeka-tou-roa, leading up to the exhibition to be held at Corban Estate from the beginning of November.
