CALLING ALL “AT HOME” ART HEAUX OCEANIC MVPFAFF+ BADDIES, ALPHABET MAFIA ALLIES AND SEKI DOODLERS.
We invite the MVPFAFF+ / LGBTQAI+/ Takatāpui / Queer community to join us in Pride 2025, for Live Drawing: The Oceanic Form, facilitated by Mel Aluesi.
Live drawing classes have been a staple of an artist’s education dating back to the 1st century. The original formula of palagi, cis-gendered, “heterosexual” (Michelangelo totally had a thing going on with David lol) men embodying the role of the muse, no longer holds relevance in the globalised, ever-connected 21st century.
Mel Aluesi wishes to see relatable representations in fine art.
A firm believer of doing-it-yourself, Aluesi is passionate about facilitating spaces of māfana. With the support of Corban Estate Arts Centre, the attendees will be guided through a two-hour session to hone their skills in depicting the Oceanic form.
How does an artist accurately depict a Polynesian form? How does one accurately depict Tatau on skin? Where are the depictions of the brown alphabet mafia (MVPFAFF/LGBTQAI+) baddies?
Queer famili and Oceanic art students of all skill levels are welcome.
18+ MVPFAFF+ / LGBTQAI+/ Takatāpui / Queer attendees only please.
E kai after the session to break the tapu and to get to know each other :)
This event is part of the 2025 Auckland Pride Festival. See the full programme at aucklandpride.org.nz
