Adventures in Abstract Painting
With James Lawrence
8 weeks, Thu mornings
13 February – 2 April
This ever-popular term class explores abstract painting concepts and techniques utilising acrylic paints, gels and additives.
Turn a raw Tui silhouette cut out from plywood into a wonderful piece of art. We will learn to prepare our wooden surface for painting, create a sunrise/sunset landscape on one side and work with Maori kowhaiwhai stencils over part of the image. To finish we will learn to gold leaf these creating a taonga to take home and hang on the wall at home.
Please bring your own sunset/sunrise photograph of a special place, your Turangawaewae to work from if you wish.
The course fees include all materials, but remember… students need to wear old clothes and bring their lunch and a drink bottle.
