Assemblage Art Workshop (1hr)
with Andrew Hall
$10 per child
10am – 11am
Andrew Hall is a firm favourite at Corban Estate Arts Centre and a well-known figure around West Auckland. His ‘spontaneous multidimensional assemblage” are sculptures he makes out of recycled materials.
In this workshop, children will get to explore the mass of recycled materials Andrew provides to create a piece of ‘junk art’. They will learn ways to join things together using cable ties, screws, glue, string and masking tape. Can you see a face in a can opener? An animal in a bottle or a robot in a VHS tape? Sculptural creations are only limited by your imagination!
“There’s a force driving me,” he says. “I work spontaneously and I’m never 100 per cent sure what’s going to happen. My work is comedy horror. It’s shocking and funny. A lot of the stuff is twisted and hideous but it’s got a funny sort of edge to it. I like making things out of proportion and non- symmetrical, like a long arm with a big hand, or one short arm or three or four arms. I start off with an idea, which changes as I go. The original idea can be completely changed by the time I’ve finished.” (Andrew Hall, Oct 2014, Arts Access Aotearoa)

Making Molecular Sculptures (1hr)
With Rangimarie McDowell
$10 per child
11.30am – 12.30pm
Art and Science combine to create sculptural forms in this workshop that explores the structure of molecules in the form of crystals. Using found natural objects such as feathers and leaves, participants will learn how to grow crystals and read microscopic molecules found in nature. We will use drawing to recreate what we are seeing through the microscope as we wait for our beautiful sculptures to crystallize. Rangimarie’s arts practice uses the essence of Maori Cosmology to connect to Tikanga Maori. Join her in this workshop andexplore how we are created and how we grow - be inspired, share and enjoy a visual conversation around cosmology and the science of nature.
