 Cloth Printing Voyage

“Tapa and Tatau are the fabrics of our collective society which I explore through unique patterns and motifs”. Interdisciplinary artist Numangatini Mackenzie leads this engrossing and fun one day workshop, sharing the details of his fascinating and accessible art practice, and assisting participants in producing small carved woodblocks to be printed straight onto cloth.

Sketch and map out your own designs, layer with vibrant colour and explore using some of Numa’s own pre-cut woodblocks. Start with a provided pillow case, but bring along anything that excites you; tea towels, t-shirts, tote bags or even a sheet! Just make sure it’s a natural fibre for the heat-set inks to be effective.
