Youth Art Workshops

Classes for 12 - 16 Year Olds / 13 - 18 Year Olds
Youth Art Workshops are a great way for young people to explore and experiment with a range of art forms. These holidays participants can produce and record songs, explore graphic design and calligraphy, or try a bit of visual poetry. Come and challenge yourself creatively through one of our action packed classes.

These classes are at a low cost and some fully sponsored places are available.

APPLY FOR A FREE PLACE: If you have a strong desire to do a workshop but you can’t afford to pay the fee, contact us on 838 4455 x 201 or info@ceac.org.nz to apply for a free place. Those who have previously benefited from attending a free place on a youth workshop will not be eligible.

One-day workshops for 12 - 16 year olds

Graphic Signatures | 12 - 16 years

with Leela Bhai

Wed 26 April, 10am – 3pm | 2 days

Participants will be inspired by the slick world of graphic design, using a range of techniques to create a visual display of their chosen word. Calligraphy, ransom note effect & organic street fonts will be combined and re-assembled to produce a unique ‘tag’.

Black Out Poetry | 12 - 16 years

with Leela Bhai

Thu 27 April, 10am – 3pm | 1 day

An introduction to the work of artist Tom Phillips and poet Austin Kleon, where you'll learn the technique of Black Out Poetry. Many works will be completed in both collaborative and individual tasks. Usually fuelled by a lot of humour, great results are achieved at all artistic levels.

Two-day workshops for 13 - 18 year olds

In the Box | 13 - 18 years

with David Atai of Nesian Mystik and Marcus Powell of Blindspott, Blacklistt and City of Souls

Wed 19 and Fri 21 April, 10am – 3pm (2 days) | 2 days

A DIY songwriting, production and beat making workshop presented by the Crescendo Trust of Aotearoa. Learn how to write, produce and record a track from scratch—making a beat, lyric writing and chorus hooks, mixing and mastering a recording. Learn about legal rights around entertainment royalties and APRA and explore band /artist photography and video to create an online presence to showcase your creativity. Workshop participants will take away an MP3 and WAV file of their track.
